Beechwood Gardens, 25 Christopherson Road, Hyde Park
Once again we are privileged to present Beechwood Gardens, which over the years have become a highlight on the Johannesburg calendar. Laid out in 1945 by legendary landscape architect, Joane Pim and redesigned by the current owners, this 3.5 acre garden surrounds a magnificent old world homestead, designed by Steffen Arends and features a colossal water oak which is believed to be the largest tree in Johannesburg! The garden features a forest with pathways leading to an English style garden where several ponds provide the perfect example of water-garden planting. Walk on through the wisteria and rose bedecked colonnades to the formal rose garden and then admire the well laid out vegetable garden which, according to Christopher, is the jewel in the crown! The garden has gained heritage status and is well worth a visit, particularly at this time of the year, when the garden is at its best.
